Hope your baby is doing better. I lost 3 pets in 2008, and am currently caring for one with terminal cancer (I think I told you this before). I know how tough it is. You are great dog mom, nlt.

Thank you all for your thoughts & prayers for my baby girl!!!
I called the vet this morning & they didn't really think she was doing too much better, said she had thrown up & wouldn't drink any water & didn't want anything to eat. I went to visit & her back was to the cage they have her in, they opened it & I said something to her & she started pushing herself out of there & got in my lap! That was the sweetest thing!!!! So, I sat in the floor & held her a while. I could tell by the look in her eyes that she was feeling better. They couldn't see it but they don't know her like I do. I asked could I give her some water & food, they said I could try but they didn't think she would eat or keep it down. She drank quite a bit of water & ate a little bit of canned food & kept it down for over an hour while I was there. I asked could I take her for a walk & she loved that, yesterday in the waiting room there was a cat walking around & she looked at it but didn't pay much attention to it b/c she didn't feel well, but today there was a cat outside & she walked pretty fast to go see it & looked for it so I could tell myself that she was a little better. They still wanted to keep her until Monday & keep her on fluids & I insisted they give her antibiotics b/c the blood level that told us she had pancreatitis was really high, they said that was from the renal failure but I really pushed the issue & said give her antibiotics so they said they are.
They said they would call me after church tomorrow & meet me up there so I can visit with her again. Which is really nice that they are doing that, I still wish the Dr. I normally see when I'm here was in b/c I went to high school with him & he is a cousin & I trust him more than these others but he will be there on Monday when I pick her up.
One thing about this is does get my focus off my H, but I do miss him not being here & I truly think one of these days he will regret it also, he loved these dogs as much as I do.
My cousin who has been thru this same thing & I met for lunch today & talked a long time, she is still very depressed about her sitch & this happened with her 5 years ago. So, it was good for us to get together & helped me get my mind off my dog. I hope & pray that she is even better tomorrow.
Sorry I went on so long, but I really appreciate all of you being concerned. These dogs are the only kids I have so it's really hard.
I think our pets get so down and depressed if they are kept overnight somewhere other than home. They think we have left them. When your dog saw you, I knew she would improve.
I hope they get her on the meds soon!
When our sheltie had pancreatitis a few months ago, they gave me four meds to give her! One was for pain and the others were for her condition. I think this helped her so much. I have to admit I had to make a chart with days and times and names of pills to administer. I think I was giving her like 8-10 pills a day for 10 days!!

Nlt, I'm glad you went to see your dog. No one knows your pet as well as you do, not even your regular vet. Pets get very depressed when left at kennels and the vet's. They think we have left them. Your dog perked up when she saw and heard you. I'm glad you got her to eat.
Definitely push the meds. She needs them along with the fluids. Are you taking her home on Monday and take her to see her regular vet? I think it would be a good idea to get a copy of the medical report to take w/you so that your vet can continue on with the medication and treatment.
Hopefully she will have improved a bit from yesterday when you go to see her.
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
Hi everyone & thank you so much for thinking of me & my dog.
I went to see her today & she is worse! In fact I have her with me now & she can't even stand up or walk. It took my Dad & me both to take her out a little while ago. The vet doesn't think she will make it thru the night. They are going to fax the records to my regular vet tomorrow, but I'm so upset. Even my younger dog started whinning when she saw her & now she is lying right beside her with her head on her.
Please say a prayer, I'm just not ready to give her up but I may have to.
nlt: I honestly think that by them NOT giving her meds, it did make her worse. It is very painful from what I have read and the sooner they give the dog the meds, the better they are but the pain is still there which is why mine was on pain meds for a good 8 days, 2x/day.
I hope you get some very soon.
And yes, they do look like they are on their deathbed when they have this.
I was feeding our dog water off my fingers. Try doing little things like that, it just might save her life. My dog was so dehydrated and we did not know she was suffering so until that one night. Even my son was scared and wanted the dog to sleep with me. I did not sleep, I was constantly getting water into her and she would eat little bits of dry dog food from my hands.
She could not stand either as it hurt her so bad.
Please keep us posted.
