I get you on the hope without expectations, but still hard to fight the stomach butterflies when I see his email address--good or bad, they are still there.
I know..YOU walk a fine line sister..Detach too much and you will walk..detach too little and you ride the coaster..it sucks for sure..Of course i say detachment is the way to go but you have to be willing to walk then take their sorry assess back if they turn around..
