Just because she usually does end up asking for help, doesn't mean she didn't want help other times. Matter of fact, it's entirely possible that she often resents having to ask.

One, because she thinks it should be obvious that she needs help.

Two, because she feels it would be polite/considerate to ask if she needs anything from time to time w/o her having to initiate it.

Is it realistic? Not really. We're not good mind readers. But remember her feelings could be there regardless of how realistic they are.
