LE-you can be a daily presence via phone, email, whatever. As they get older, and start to develop their own lives, that may be all it is even if you are in the house. The key is to really make the most of the time together, let them know they can always count on you, call you, anytime, day or night for any reason. Even if it something as stupid as "I just saw a commercial on the TV for something I want" That is the kind of Dad you need to be, regardless of anything else in your life. It is the kind of parents we all deserve but so few get.

That was actually something I grappled with when I went back to work. I was a SAHM for quite a few years. And yes I still see S daily, we do live together, but sometimes it is only for a few minutes. As one is running in and the other out. If you D, you and W can agree that you can visit whenever they or you feel like it not just on set visitation schedule.

As far as your dream house, if you want it you will do it. Right after WW2, my grandfather built a house for my grandmother. Economy not good, took a few years cuz he actually did it himself, but he wanted to do and and he made it possible.

If you focus on the past, you ruin the future. You can only live for today.

LE...just stopping in to give hugs and wish you a great weekend...

I did have one comment...really not related to anything important, but I smiled and thought of it when I read about you saying you were "egotistical."

I had this mentor at work for a while...he was the best engineer I will likely ever have opportunity to work with. One day I was complaining about a new kid in the office...I said, "Man, he's just so full of himself." My mentor just smiled and said..."Amy, I've never met an engineer that wasn't full of him/herself. Some of us just learn quickly that we have to hide that from the rest of the world. Some of us never learn that!"

Good luck!!!

Hugs to you!
Amy

engineers with egos; must be a joke in there somewhere. This statement coming from a guy who works second level technician/software work. We adapt for field use what the engineers send us. LOL!!

OH..and we don't keep our egos hidden!!

I am not that great an engineer that is the funniest part! I know enough to be dangerous! I understand what you are up against, sometimes I get stuff that makes no sense and have to figure out a way to make it work. Usually it is a 2:00 a.m. and I have to drive an hour to go get some part or piece of equipment and then get back and get it fixed before the morning rush. Thankfully that doesn't happen often but when it does... pure hell.

Crew cancelled, too windy and too cold! They called me at 7:30 and voice mail didn't beep until I was past the halfway mark to the off-site. Back in the office for the rest of the day.

I got that call last night. I had just settled down for slumber about 12:20am; then the phone rings at 12:45am. central computer down. Luckily, there was another guy available as I would have had to call my in-laws to watch the kids.

The life of being on-call.
