Are the credit cards in just your name or both names?
Ugh. I hate this crap. Maybe you could keep track of what he owes and how much he has paid (don't forget whatever interest they are charging monthly). Even if they are paid off because you paid more than the minimum he still owes half the bill. If he doesn't want to deal with you forever then he can pay it off quicker.
