Santa Mom came to the house again today. She picked the kids up after school, took them out to eat, took them shopping for some clothes and toys. Then she dropped them and split.

Oh yeah. I've been up since 6am. Believe it or not!

I do feel mostly better. Still have a nagging reminder from what I felt yesterday; but I'm good.

W's stepfather's SIL passed over the weekend from a heart attack while hunting. His visitation is tonight about 1.5 hours from our house. W texted me this morning wanting to know if I was going; I never met any his people, so I politely declined.

I asked her if she was going, she said yes. She was considering taking the kids. I asked why and what time would they be home as they have school tomorrow. She said about 9:30 or 10pm and that she would have her mother and stepfather bring them back. She stated that if she didn't take them tonight, she was considering taking them to the mass tomorrow. I replied that I don't think that they will sit for a mass, nor would they want to go to a visitation that has a 3 hour trip involved for people they don't even know nor are they related to.

I told her that I preferred that they stay home. Me thinks that the W just wants to parade them in front of people she hasn't seen in a long time. I see absolutlely no benefit in the kids attending either the viewing or the funeral mass.

If she took them tonight, she gets off at 5pm; she would have to take an hour to pick the kids up then 1.5 hour drive. She'd get there about 7:30; visitation is over at 8pm and then turn around and get the kids back home @ 9:30pm. Stupid plan.

I think you're right. She just wants to put on a dog and pony show for them. No point in disrupting the kids schedules for a non-relative.

Yea...stupid plan!

Seriously, I'm certainly not the best person to weigh in on this issue, but, I will anyway. I personally don't see any reason for kids to be exposed to death any more than necessary. I believe that when someone close to them dies, you have to deal with that...and honesty is always the best bet in those situations.

However, for someone they weren't close to...I just don't see the need. I think how their little minds don't really understand everything going on around them, and what concerns they might take away from the experience. They've had enough dose of the sadness in the real world to last a while.

Again, just my $0.02 worth!

Good luck with that one!

Amy, you make a very salient point.

My daughter has no concept of death. Why expose her with someone she never knew?

I'll take your $.02
