I'm so sorry about your Dad getting that staph infection! My grandma got it also, the hospital said she got it in the nursing home but she didn't have it when she went to the hospital, so I know that is where she got it also.
I hope he continues to do well & those antibiotics will kick in soon! Thoughts & prayers are with your family!!
As far as I know H is still in China. ((((HUGS))))
YR, My father was a diabetic too. The doctors were concerned because he had it in his left foot and it was really an ugly sight for a while before they did anything for him. It took us 5 days to convince the rehab staff that something was seriously wrong with his foot and when we demanded that he go to the hosptial/ER, they knew then something was wrong. The ER doctor took one look and hooked him up to an antibiotic right away. The type of infection can do a lot of harm.
From what I've read, that particular infection usually comes from being in the hospital, nursing home, rehabs, etc. If you have a nick of any sort, the infection can get in the blood stream and really go to town. I'm glad it was caught in time. He'll start to see some improvement in the next couple of days.
Are you going to to go see him over the holiday?
Sit quietly, the answers will reveal themselves when you least expect them to. The past is gone, the present is a gift and you need to focus on today, allow the future to reveal itself when it is ready.
They still don't know for sure if it is a staph infection. They think so but they have sent an infectious disease specialist to see him and he took several tissue samples and cultures. All of his doctors are coming to see him at the same time today along with the IDS. They haven't started any antibotics yet but are thinking of doing it today. Maybe they are waiting for the tests first.
Unfortunately, I can't go and see my family during the holidays. I wished I could but H can't get off work and I can't handle my D by myself on a plane.
YR, I will keep your father in my thoughts and prayers. I do hope that they can nail down the infection and get him on the proper antibiotics as soon as possible.
Please let us know how he is doing. I'll be checking in periodically for an update.

The doctors are taking my dad back down to the cardiac unit. They said they feel better with him there where they can keep their eyes on him. His cardiologist said he has a couple of leasky heart valves and they will be doing an ultra sound to investigate. Nothin on the type of infection he has but that usually takes a couple of days. They are treating him with lasics (sp) for the swelling right now.
My poor dad, I feel so bad for him. He has been through so much in the last 2 weeks!
