I think that art is a reflection of the society that we live in. Does it perpetuate the current state of affairs? To a limited degree...if anything, it might be the lens that shows the stupidity of the choices--an exaggeration of our society's issues.
But by showing the excess, it also normalizes more moderate-seeming changes...
their extremes in drama make our divorces pale in comparison.
