This thread is a cool idea!! This will be my first holiday season. Man, It was tough not seeing the kiddos on Halloween. Trying to get prepared. I imagine there gonna be a lot of mixed emotions.
That recipe sounds gooood... I'm flat out dangerous in the kitchen though. That's one 180 I have not tried.
It is possible that I will spend part of the Christmas holiday alone. If that is the case, I will just deal with it. I actually kind of like the down time and being by myself.
Last year just before Thanksgiving I had a wonderful "adult" day with a friend--we had tapas and wine and looked around the city--and it was awesome. I am hoping that I will be able to do that again this year, either before Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Just about anything I do w/D is fun for her, so I have learned that I do not need to kill myself going all-out for her. She is happy to see any and everybody who comes by.

My new 'tradition' is based around New Year not Christmas. Since my H left I have had an 'open house' party on New Year's day. When I originally had the idea I was going to do bacon sandwiches for everyone but then my wise mum pointed out that I would be in the kitchen cooking all the time while my guests were enjoying themselves. So now the day before I cook a big vat of chilli and several catering sized cottage pies. As it is an open house people are coming and going all day long and these dishes can just be warmed up when the next batch is needed.
Last year I came a bit unstuck as one of my new friends came along for the first time and I had forgotten that she was vegetarian! Fortunately for me she isn't 'devout' and so she did eat something. This year I will need to find a recipe that is suitable for veggie people but that can still be cooked in advance and just warmed up when necessary.
Any suggestions?

ACJ, I am sure BND has all kinds of possibilities for you! I have been vegetarian for over 10 years now, and I have a number of recipes too...including one for chili that nobody realizes is actually meatless, so you can serve it to omnivores too! So let us know what you would like!
Peace, Dawn

Thanks BND & Dawn. I'm after recipes for main courses. Something that I can prepare and cook in advance and that can be reheated as and when during the day so that I can enjoy the company of my guests (and they mine!)

My Husband never wanted me to decorate the outside of the house or the front yard.
The first Christmas he was gone, I barely decorated anything. I bought a small tree and let the kids decorate it with stuff they made. I didn't want to deal with it. I was too depressed.
The second Christmas he was gone my house was fully decorated. The lights were up and the front of my house was spectaculor. I did it for me. It looked fabulous.
I also took the kids to see a late night movie on Christmas Eve and that was also something I had never done before. This will be our 3rd Christmas with this new tradition.
So, lets come up with a fun plan for you....
There can be no testimony without a test. I am praying to go through this test and come out the other end with a new and better marriage then before.
