I am going to spend the holidays with my family in virginia, and it is easy to take the bus to NYC to visit my other friends who are there, and also "happen" to be in the town where B lives. So it is sort of a combination. I really like your plan of bringing it up and seeing whether he says anything. I thought of a clever way to mention it... I could just tell him that I"m thinking of meeting with some different NYC cello teachers "when I am in town in December" so he will know that I will be there.
