Tell him you'll give him money to buy new socks if it's that important. Or you can hand him the garbage and tell him he can find the ones he'd really like.
Hmmm... having you dig through garbage to find something that covers his soul (sole)... geez.. pretty interesting request and it keeps him top of mind in your thoughts.
