Well I did the letter as part of a class, believe it or not, in my MBA program 2 years ago. It was a class called Creativity and Personal Mastery. The ideas are very "Secret-like". So the idea is to write everything in the present tense, everything that you are currently grateful for, and to be as detailed as possible, down to the kitchen sink in your house. You are then meant to carry it in your wallet so that it is with you all of the time.

People may doubt this, but a few days after I did this for the first time (where I was focusing on getting a post-MBA job), I got a recruitment email from a very good company for a dream job. I got the job, even though I believe that there were many others who, on paper, would have been much better. I beat many odds to get my job. Other things in my letter came true as well, but the majority of the focus had been on my job.
