I had my day made today. As some of you know I teach learning disabled students. School is hard for lots of students, but mutltiply that by about 10 for my students.

Today one of my students that is in town for his 10 year high school reunion stopped by to visit me. He was raised by a single mother and one of the nicest well-mannered young men you will ever meet. I must admit, he is probably in my top five favorite students I have ever had.

I was walking back to my class when I see a well dressed young man looking my way. He had on dress slacks and a tie. He started walking towards me with a huge smile on his face. It was then that I realized it was Darnell. He came up and gave me a big hug. We exchanged pleasantries and such. I then asked him what he was doing now. He told me he is working on his masters! I told him I was so proud of him. He hugged me with tears in his eyes and said "I could not have made it without you." I said,"Yes, you could have." He said,"Well, maybe I could have, but you sure helped me. I mean it, you helped me more than any teacher I ever had" Wow, that's what teaching is all about! I know there are lots of teachers that have successful students, but when one my learning disabled students succeed in such a fashion, it is truly wonderful!
