My intuition says to call him- if he does't pick up don't leave a message and if he does pick up you can have a brief conversation and say that you thought you'd call and say hello.
IMHO periods of dark aren't going to help your sitch further- there's some similarities to Julia's situation where you need to remind him of you and make some moves. What does your instinct tell you to do/what would be the most uncomfortable thing to do? I ask because the uncomfortable thing is probably your 180- so do that!!
