Pain all gone and hasn't been back since! Thanks for your concern!!
Good good weekend all around. My D6 made some executive decisions about her life (lol) and has dropped Brownies in favor of a new gymnastics/tumbling class. Why does this make me SO very happy? Because I was ready to face OW, who would have been D6's co-leader this year. Blecky. D6 had no clue about who her leaders were going to be, she just wanted to try something new. Yay for that!!! I love that she does her own thang!
Of course, now D4 wants to take tumbling, so excuse me while I pluck some money from the money tree in my backyard as H won't help out with this (in the decree, we must 'agree' on their activities, spare me). Oh well, I know it'll be great for them.
I have learned something and gotten to a new place. My relationship with H is a 'barely' friends/mom-dad relationship now. Nothing he does on his own (single life, oh the joy) will change what we have. We will always be their parents. What he does on his own can't affect me. Won't affect me eventually. Make sense?

Good for D6! And you are so sweet a mom that you would even consider taking her and having to face OW like that!!! I don't think I could ever be that mature and strong!!! I'd want to practice my TKD on her!!! Karen
I tell you what though, I cannot stomach her being nice to my kids. Last Halloween, at the Halloween party at school (trunk or treats, do you have those?), D6 and D4 walked up to her and she gave them tons of candy with a "Hear ya go sweeties, you deserve to have extras cuz you're sooooo cute". Oh barf.
But the troop meetings would have royally sucked, I would have serious trouble focusing on D6 and her fun. Yuck all around. Her first troop meeting was in 2 days, so THANK goodness for small favors!
Being the mother of a daughter gave me the opportunity to hate Brownies twice in my life. Ugh! Those cookie sales are no better when you have a car to do them. I sure hope no granddaughter ever asks me to help her with Brownies!
Gee, does that mean I'm not going to get to order GS cookies from ya' now?
It's funny -- S7 wanted to do the opposite this year, drop a sport (soccer) to try the scouts out. He wanted to do both, but I told him no can do. It's hard enough to get him to focus on one extracurricular activity, let alone two. So it's scouts for now.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW don't get me started with the cookie sales. The biggest pain for any Mother, hands down!
lwb,
You will not be sorry. My girls danced and tumbled all through school. Not only did this prepare them for cheerleading and Poms but kept them in great condition for their sports. So many girls nowaday quit with Brownies. If your little one waited it out and started tumbling them she would be way behind others in her age group. Besides, it will be fun for you as well.
nocode, sorry, no sales here. Sounds like its a massive pain.
Beth, I totally totally agree with you. D6 was worried about starting something like dance and not being able to keep up. We went and observed a gymnastics class yesterday and I quietly mentioned D6's worries about keeping up and the instructor was amazing to D6. She said gymnastics is great because she can do it at her own pace.
And I really want to help the girls appreciate being fit and healthy. Eating healthy and exercising was not taught/encouraged in my family growing up, so I struggle to make it important with my girls. I think finding a sport they love (even if they hop from sport to sport, just staying active) would be excellent for them.
You are so right about the activety level. When they are involved in something as physical as tumbling it just seems to take them quite easily into whatever sport they choose. I never really thought about this until my son went from swimming to football. He was one of the kids who 2 a days seemed effortless for.
I also think that the sooner kids are started out in somekind of physical activity they automatically incorporate it into their lives.
