Hi Jeff, I dont get this issue about the schools. I am probably too tired. So, some hugs and kisses for you and I will re read everything in (my)the morning. Love K
I don't get it either, and I'm here! I know the school situation isn't ideal, but I really don't know what we can do to improve it, realistically. Maybe realism isn't involved?
I took the boys to the birthday party, and then went golfing (the weather was great!), and then to W's parents' house for dinner (the "rich" aunt and uncle passing back through). So, at least it turned out to be a nice afternoon!
((Jeff)). Just to let you know I read your posts and I'm thinking of you. I really really like Ali's suggestion of buying a new shirt, aftershave, and then going somewhere without the kids. Who knows you might even have fun! Could you plan to do that next weekend? I too am confused about the school thing - good luck with that!
You still haven't bought any new clothes? I'm going to start nagging pretty soon!
Sounds like you all had a nice afternoon Jeff! I was just wondering what your Ws parents/family think of your sitch? Have they spoken to you about it? Just curious.
It seems that your kids aren't challenged in school?? Sometimes kids act bored because the level of instruction is too low for thm. Have you had their IQ tested? Maybe they would benefit from some kind of extra school activity or club? Have you spoken to their teachers?
Yep I ask a lot of questions...lol

If genes have anything to do with intelligence, my kids are doomed to have it. My IQ is plenty high, I'm sure W's is too. Her brother makes me look stupid. (Well, maybe not, but you get the idea.) I think W hid her intelligence, or perhaps was socially directed to hide it, as a girl. She had/has some dyslexia issues that held her back through a lot of elementary school, and probably got her pigeon-holed a bit. But, anyway, the kids are plenty smart! W went to conferences for both kids last week, we'll see if anything actually happens. I sympathize with the teachers, to a degree, but I know that the end result is that the bright kids don't go nearly as far as they could. (Speaking from experience.) Instead, I think they learn how to be lazy, and beat the system, in the end. That was S19's method, anyway.
I don't know what W's family knows. I mean, they have to know something, but I have no idea what they have figured out, or what she has told them.
Talked to S20 for a few minutes on the phone this morning. It sounds like they are getting really antsy to come home! He says they should be here on the 10th of October, but I'll believe it when I see it! But, it should be soon, in any case.
I have a bagful of trash to gather together in here. There was a bag under the bed that had been extracted from the junk drawer a year or more ago. I decided that it can all go, with very few exceptions. I know, I will want a cup hook, or something like that next week, but I think it is better to get rid of it! Then I'm going to gather what is on the "desk, and put it on the bed to sort into keep and file piles. A lot of it is tax and medical insurance stuff, so it needs to get kept, but it doesn't need to be on the desk! Then I think I'll be close to being able to switch the desk and bed around, which will be a big change! So, it is going a little more slowly than it should (I did chase a white ball around outside again today, white unsuccessfully), but it is going. Soon the price of golf will go up, and I won't go as much. So, I don't feel too bad about that, except for my ineptitude!
I think I do need to plan something for next weekend. I'm such a social caterpillar (as far from a butterfly as you can get) that it is a challenge for me. Though, I suppose I could dress nicely to go get some new clothes! (That's for you, Jen!)
Hey Jeff, great news that your son is coming home soon. Maybe you should confer with the kids' teachers also. I know that here there is a gifted and talented program in the schools. Some public schools also have a delta program, which is an accelerated program for children who are ahead of the others.
The teachers could also guide the children to be peer helpers. Try to become involved in the decisions about their education and not leave it up to w, she might resent that.
Great job on the bedroom. Could you put the taxes and other papers somewhere else in the house, garage or attic and make room somewhere else for your desk? Do you use it often. The bedroom should be a calming space for sleeping, tv viewing, and whatever else floats your boat. Jeff, I am going to keep telling you to get rid of stuff. The chances of you needing them, if you haven't all this time, is very, very small, ya know. Come on now, keep it going.
If your school, or another one nearby, had the GATE program that would be cool, but yeah, public schools really have a hard time with kids that don't fit the "normal" curve.
I got lazy. Did my homework the period before it was due, goofed off in the evenings. My parents never checked up on me because I always did great.
My sister didn't see the point to turning her homework in. She obviously knew the stuff since she got 96-100% on all the tests...so she didn't see the point in wasting her time on homework lol.
The other thing to consider, besides GATE, is schools which will let them go up a grade or two in classes they are good at (i.e. english or math or whatever) and/or which would allow them to take a college class or two for fun.

Thanks! S13 is in the ELP (Extended? Learning Program) at school. He had to test in with really high scores on a test to do that. And it sounds like they are going to try to let him double up in math to get ahead a year. So, they are doing something. We'll see how it goes.
S10 didn't get the scores on the ELP test last year, I have a feeling he made the test to difficult on himself! (I think he tried to read too much into things, instead of just answering the questions.) He takes it again soon. His teacher has recommended him for a new peer mediation program at school. It sounds like it is a program to use kids to help resolve conflicts. They give them some training, and then have them meet with kids that are having conflicts and work out solutions. The other thing he is doing is reading like crazy. The teacher set a goal for each kid to read 5000 pages during the school year. He is seiously threatening to have that done before the end of the first quarter. (He will certainly have it done by the end of the break.) He's proud of being first, so that's a good thing for him.

That sounds like me. Sometimes I'd get teh homework done before the end of class. The only homework I really took any time on was stuff that involved writing. Still, only as little as possible!
Oh, and Donna! I'll get the papers filed, and into a box in the garage, or a file cabinet. I'm going to leave the desk in the bedroom, it has the computer on it. And I hope to get it set up so that I can use half of it as a workbench for train projects that can be done indoors.
