What was that last post about? For some reason - it really doesn't seem all that important anymore!
My vacation was a vacation - BUT a little different than what I expected. Turks & Caicos had a little visitor - Hurricane Hanna - yup lived through the whole cycle. It was rainy. Then eerie creepy calm in eye. And then the really incredibly powerful side - uprooted trees, water everywhere... We actually had to run to our rooms just as the nasty side hit - soaked to the bone in minutes.
Well all this started w/in 24 hours after I arrived on the island - so all activities were cancelled - no scuba, snorkeling, sailing, trapeze etc. So there were 200 type guests (GMs)that went to this Resort for the athletic activities and 100 staff (GOs). No one could leave the island and no one new arrived.
And then just as Hanna left - well Ike is on course to may hit the island - so all tourists were evacuated. Airlines flew in empty planes to fly everyone out. My trip was cut short by a day - not a bad thing - my liver is relieved.
I am a little worried about the GO's. They really aren't like traditional staff. They are people like us from all over the world that take a sabatical from reality and work at The Resort for awhile... They are still there - and do not know yet if they will be evacuated. Ike is Category 3 - Hanna was pretty scary as a Category 1. I have never heard the wind blow so loudly... It was so powerful...
The vacation was still great. Great people, great conversations, great food and we kept busy doing silly indoor things. Very international crowd - so many languages all over the place. We partied till 2-3 am the last few nights! I exchanged phone numbers with several people and we are going to try and coordinate future vacations. We all work too hard and need to make taking time off a priority...
It was also a great and safe environment to practice my skills with members of the opposite sex. There are all types of people - some really respect boundaries and some aren't so great when they get drunk or just don't get it. There was one creey stalker guy that scared me a little b/c he simply could not accept repeated NO's for an answer - one of the GO's noticed and alerted security to keep an eye on him - so that was okay. There really are a lot of great men out there. Didn't feel The Zing with anyone - but made some new friends.
Life is very good. It will be better if Ike misses T & C....
