My kitty was 15 when we had to put him to sleep. I still cry. It has only been this past year that I have entertained the thought of getting another. Even then, I debate it because my heart hurts.

Ahh Trip, I'm sorry
15 yrs is a long time.
Maybe you just need to mourn your kitty for a little while longer, its very hard.

When my Rascal died at 12, it took a long time before wanting another pet, didnt want the heartbreak again, but , well I'm giving love another try so why not a pet right? \:\)

Opted for a cat since it would be easier for me alone, maybe when B is here for good, we may even try to sneak a lil doggie in, if Misty allows it lol

Morning Karen,

Mind if I Hijack for a min...

Trip: My beloved Tiffany was 17 when we had her put down. She was the most faithful, lovable companion. It was horrible. I got Chanel as my replacement kitty. A darling 6 week old Himalayan and she wrapped her little paws around my heart. She was more like a puppy than a kitty, following me everywhere, cuddling at night. 6 months after ex left, she developed kidney failure at 4 years of age and died. We were all totally heartbroken. I found 2 himalayan sister kitties a week later and adopted them. But it was never the same. They did not warm up to us - were shy and reclusive and I mourned Chanel so much (we all did). I think they were rebound kittens and maybe I expected too much. 2 years later I found Tira Misu in a pet store. A tiny calico whom I had no intention of bringing home. But I did. And she was everything that I missed in Chanel. But the himalayans did not like her. And it was difficult. A year later we were moving to a smaller house and I found new homes for the himmies. And lie was fab with just Tira. Then she developed liver failure at age 2 and died just 2 years ago and I still cry over her. Again I got another one - another calico, Tango who we still have (she just turned 2) and I love her but she prefers Ashley. And last spring I found Blu, a tiny ragdoll boy who is more like Chanel than Chanel herself. And Tango loves him and mothers him and we are one big family again.

To sum it up - take a look - just don't jump in. Find the right kitty for you. You will know it when you find them. They usually pick you - not the other way around. And you will not regret it. Mostly because you waited and didn't pick the rebound kitty. I strongly suggest looking - you just never know what will happen.

Karen - hope the scratching thing is getting better. I think I'm going to get Blu a new scratching post today. Maybe he will leave my chair alone. There is always hope.

Well, house cats are one thing, but unfortunately some people get sick of them and dump them off out here in the country, then they turn wild and become a problem. So it's all a matter of perspective.

they did that with dogs by my parents

when I was younger there were packs of them that ran the river bottoms

which was way worse than packs of actual wild dogs

because these ones weren't afraid of people but would tear you up if given a chance.

i remember when they had to send groups of men through the woods to try to catch them because it was too dangerous for people to just have them running

You know, all of my kitties have come into my life by not my going out and getting them. They have always been toss aways from friends.

Long stories that I won't get into but it was like I was meant to have them in my life and I in theirs.
