It can vary. The guys here are a little different breed so my answer may not be the norm. We are the ones willing to work through problems.
For me, I can man cave over something for about 2 weeks. If I can't resolve it mentally on my own, that is when I would bring it up for discussion (with my SO) to find a solution.
I think it is true about being able to "snap back". But it does take some time to get there.
I think what that means, is when they reconnect, they are not going to "test" the relationship. Unlike women who feel they need to "test". VALIDATE!
