Spoke to my daughter. Everything is fine. The professor and wife have cancelled their plans and will be staying home. She will stay in their house with them. The storm is still supposed to go west of New Orleans. It should be fine.
Now I've nervous again. Gustav is now rated a Category 4 storm. Katrina was a Cat 5 while in the Gulf, but lost steam and came ashore as a Cat 3. So this one is big and bad. Daughter is still not keeping the cell phone around, so I can't reach her. I doubt her plans have changed. Still planning to hunker down at the Professor's house with a generator. I called Deuxlie, and so far she is staying too. It's good to have someone on the scene I can talk to. Thank you, Deuxlie. You made me feel better.
They think it will come in about 100 miles west of where she is. So it depends on the size of the storm. Katrina was 350 miles across. They predict this will be about half that distance. So yes, they predict that she will be in the path of the hurricane.
I'm glad she is with the professor and his wife and not riding it out alone, but I sure wish she would jump in her new car and zip on to FL! You have raised one strong willed young lady! I can't imagine what you are going through right now.
Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are. -- Bernice Johnson Reagon
Yes, she is one determined young lady. I don't think there is any zipping out of the New Orleans region anymore. Hurricane evacuation traffic is a disaster in itself. They update on the storm evey 3 hours on http://www.nhc.noaa.gov. So I keep watching that and hoping that she will contact me.
