Lengthening out the D!!! You want it to go as s-l-o-w-l-y as possible. This allows time for thinking, healing and POSSIBLE reconciliation.
For example, I didn't sign until I absolutely had to, and I let my attorney know I wanted the D to drag out as long as possible. I figured this would buy me the time to turn things around... if that was even going to happen. Even though I knew it might not, I wanted to give it a chance.
And even if we didn't reconcile, it would give me the time to heal, lots of time to work through the baggage, and be ready for a new life once the whole thing was over.
Also, never sign any legal papers without going over them with an attorney. Learn your options, and learn the laws in your state.
There is no arriving, ever. It is all a continual becoming.
