Well, I can now go back to the library, since I found the missing books! LOL! Now all I need to do is pay the $5 each fine...which is much better than the $30 each to replace them.
I have been having a horrible time misplacing things this summer. Things seem to disappear and then months later I find them. The combination of re-organizing my office and generally cleaning out and then my disorganized depression made for quite a mess. Today, after I take the wonder pup for a long walk, I will CLEAN HOUSE!
We are experiencing our usual end-of-summer heat wave. It will be triple digits...again. Not so bad, really. I am lucky in that we have a wonderful cooling breeze almost every night, so the house cools down and I can seal it up in the morning. It stays pretty comfortable if I stick to the shade. No humidity!
I had a fairly major set-back yesterday in the income department. I was feeling good about this semester because I had enough work with my 3 different contracts to keep my head above water. Each one was about 10 hours a week, and the money coming in would allow me to get a little ahead. My plan (if I end up NOT getting that other job in Coalinga) was to work on building up my freelance work with the remaining 10 hours.
I lost one of the contracts yesterday...due to some rules that are out of my control. I don't want to go into the details, but suffice it to say I am now significantly SHORT.
I have had so many ups and downs in the job area. I really enjoy my life as it is right now...but I am not independently wealthy and I need to bring in more money. In my perfect life I would only work about 50 percent time. Working 100 percent takes a toll on my day-to-day balance and activities.
On the good hand, I have had some great interviews with some great opportunities, but so far, none of them have panned out. I am encouraged that the ones that DO nibble are really interesting, well paying jobs that I would enjoy immensely. I do feel pretty good that even in this economy I am getting invited...Things are so competitive right now. And I wonder if there is any ageism involved. As someone who did recently graduate but has not worked full time for the past 20 years I might not look as good on paper as someone younger.
I feel like I am looking in the wrong places. I know I have a unique skill set and a LOT to bring to the table. Have I just been looking in the wrong places? Sometimes it feels like looking for a needle in a hay stack.
If I end up not moving I will probably end up renting out a room. That will help. I have a lead on a possible vet student, which would be good because of the wonder pup.
Anyway, in a bit of a Quandary. Hopefully my luck will change soon.

SG, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Have you tried using a job service to look for something? If not, look into it because my X's agency filled both full and part time positions and they were always looking for skilled people. It sounds like you'd be perfect for the part time job I just left!!!
I really really hope that something wonderful comes through for you soon. You are so deserving!!!
SG:Sending positive vibes your way. I do hope things all come together and very soon for you. I know how frustrating it all can be.
And you are so lucky for the heat wave. We've been waiting all summer for ours - it is NOT coming! But the good news is that the forecast for this holiday w/e is wonderful - sunny and warm. Josh is heading up here in about an hour. Told me he has the wine in the car already. Since we've both met you - we'll toast to you and wish you the best. Hope it helps!
I have been reluctant to go to a head-hunter type situation because they ask for $$ up front...and that usually makes me suspicious. But thanks for the reminder. In the past I have made some great connections by working for temp agencies. I will look into that again.
Hey Barb!
I am raising a virtual wine glass to the toast! No clinky no drinky as I always say! Have fun w/ Josh.

Some head hunters (at least in the past) only collect money if you stay with the agency for X amount of days (90?). Anyway, the company I just left "only" uses temp agencies to find their employees. A lot of them do that now. They hire from the temp for 60-90 days to make sure they'll work out and then hire them. It's cheaper for the company this way because they don't want to invest in insurance, etc., for someone that may not work out.
I had a 3 yr break in my govt job and I went to temp agencies for work during that time. I got asked to stay by every company I temped for and was able to pick & choose where I wanted to be. Also, sign up at several agencies.
SG I'm sorry too SG Its tough I know and sometimes its hard to really get ahead.
You are one smart cookie, no doubt about that- and I know there is something out there waiting just for you that will fit like a glove! Like Fig found!
I hope things work out.
Its gonna be hot here too uggh. Glad its coming to an end! We too get a nice cool breeze in the evening, so at least isnt constant. Saw all the autumn and halloween things in the store yesterday! Love that time of year.
Have a great weekend SG!
