From his point of view it could mean nothing right now. More than likely it doesn't mean what you want it to mean and that is ok.
Remember, you're going for friendship right now. Your goal is to work on rebuilding that rapport. That is what you're doing and that is what is happening. That in and of itself is all good. That is what you want. You need to rebuild that solid foundation, the rest will come in its time.
