That's so funny--you may already know this, but prom has a very different meaning here in the U.S. (our mangled British roots showing) which involves a high school dance coming of age ceremony. There are usually embarrassing pictures involved, bad fashion, terrible dancing--not so with the British version?!

That sounds like fun Julia! I would love to see the concerts. I've seen Royal Albert Hall on tv and it is so beautiful. I'd love to see it in person. You and Lisa should definitely get together and go!

Yeah - iamlost said it right - Prom in the US is short for promenade which is a miserable high school dance tradition. They are held in the spring and involve Junior's and Senior's in high school (typically 16-18 year olds). The pictures are usually hysterical, the dancing leaves a lot to be desired, and most couples end up in a fight by the end of the evening (or drunk fumbling in the backseat of a car followed 9 months later by surprise children!). Silly!

Dearest J,

Thank you so much girl for all your help on my thread. It means so much to have your perspective!!!

I really like what you wrote about feeling more comfortable sending throw-away texts. I eagerly await the day when I can do that, or get a text without having either a sinking or ecstatic feeling \:\)

That is really sweet that you and your H met at the proms concerts, what a good story \:\)

LOVE,
T

(((Lisa))) that would be really cool - pick an evening you fancy. We'd have to prom to get the full effect - and it's only a fiver!

(((Mishka and Lost))) - Yeah, that has started over here now I think. I think I've seen the American ones on MTV reality shows. Why do the parents let them go?? It must be cool though at that age to get dressed up and stuff, I probably would have loved it and dreaded it at the same time.

(((T))) - No problem, your posts are always so insightful too!

On a good note today at work, a contact I made, who is an expert at accounts, came in today to help me with mine and the good news is that I have been doing them right - phew! It is the one part of my job that I have never been sure about as I am rubbish at anything to do with numbers! So that is a huge weight off my chest. Also, it distracted me from a day that would have been filled with worry and and potential downward spiral so that was great. Other than that a quite day for me.

Hey Julia,

That really would be cool! Can you pick? I have no idea what to choose, not having been before, and not being a classical afficionado. Any night apart from the 21st or 28th Aug....

So exciting! I can't wait!

YAY on the accounts being OK too \:\)

L. xx
