The guys from B-shift are getting together to play Texas HOld-Em today. They all got permission from their wives to play. Not exactly what I was hoping for after the weekend. Would have much rather went on a cycle ride or golfing.
My xw didn't like gambling. She was a real Numbers person (High ranking accountant at her company). 5 bucks or 500...she really didn't care she just hated it. Now me on the other hand, I hung out with people who enjoyed it. Did a bit of it myself. She told me she hated it so I pretty much stopped. On occasion, she would hear of a card game and give me the nod to go. It wasn't like permission, I respected her view on it and it really didn't bother me that much. On occasion, I would be out with the guys and would play some pull-tabs (offered at most bars in minnesota) but I kept it in check as I kept myself to an allowance and didn't like to explain why I wrote 2 or 3 checks in one night.
The subject of gambling has come up again in my past. I've had to ask myself if there is a problem. Do I have a problem? Do other people see something I don't? So last year after hearing it again, I quit. I've been to the casino a few times for Buffett, played the state pool tournament at Canturbury Downs were there is gambling along with horse racing, and been out with people who still play pull-tabs. I've had an urge or two but I haven't given in. Kinda like being at a concert and you get a wiff of that really good high buck weed and remember when you use to smoke (unless you are Clinton or still smoke).
I knew I could always give it up for someone else. Never really challenged myself to give it up for me. Why should I? it was fun, exciting. But I did. I don't know the exact date I last played, but I know it has been over a year. One less character flaw.
Sorry guys, can't play, going on a motorcycle ride. See ya later.
