Staying in a temporary shelter, hauling lots of stuff, cooking outdoors, getting eaten alive by bugs, feeling dirty and sleeping in an uncomfortable place.............
OK, why is this supposed to be fun???
We went. When MG made the reservation, he specifically asked if the camp sites were right on top of each other and was told no. WRONG!!! We could practically reach out on 3 sides and touch the other campers. There had to be about 3000 kids at this place and nearly as many dogs. At 7AM some idiot was out whacking weeds and mowing while another was hammering on his deck. This did nothing to drown out the sounds of babies crying, kids screaming and dogs barking!!! And......we had a 5 yr old neighbor that wouldn't go away!!!
Soooooo....this is my 2nd time camping in our camper and I HATE IT!!! MG hated this park, said he'd never seen anything like it and we left yesterday after we spent the morning riding quad runners in the sand dunes on Lake MI which was a blast!!!! The only reason we stopped riding was because my thumb quit working!!!
I was willing to stay and tough it out because that's the kind of girl I am......
Now......I've had one "good" experience and one "bad" experience. The third time will determine if this is going to be a new hobby for me or not.
And.......I missed the opening ceremonies of the olympics, dammit!!!
Hi Qoe, yes yes yes, I can see why I hated camping so much, I will remember this whenever I get the urge to "do the outdoors" thing again.
The best bit of camping for me was retelling (ok with slight embellishment) how awlful it was when I got back. I,m leaving all those early nights and even earlier mornings to those who are jolly good eggs and run the girl guides and scouting events. I am so shallow!! I did enjoy a mobile home holiday once in South of France, just outside of Nice. So maybe there is hope for me to get in touch with my au natural self!

Naej, All I can say is....we "must" hang out!!! I'm not a jolly good egg when I'm sleep deprived, dirty and it takes 4 hours to cook a hamburg on the grill.
That's why I got a cottage! I love the outdoors, being away from all the comforts of home. But then gradually I was able to add them here. So, I have the bbq, screen gazebo, tv, internet etc but I am away from the phone calls, bills and other stresses. For me - this is the compromise.
And I did pay my dues. I actually camped with Ryan after he got brain damage along with one in diapers (Ryan is also in diapers). I was a brave soul. I HATE bugs too! I hate snakes and dirt and that damp feeling when you sleep on the ground. I gave up camping the summer I was 8 months pregnant with Ashley. And I have never looked back.
Take your camper to Fort Wilderness in Disney World. That is one nice camp spot! Of course - I like the cabins there better!
