I read an interview once with a transsexual who'd gone from female to male. He'd always been attracted to women as a female, so that didn't change, but he said the physical (surgical) changes were actually less startling than the hormone treatments. Apparently it's a massive dump of testosterone a woman has to take to "make the switch." He said he'd been unprepared for the effects. Where he might have noticed a pretty girl on the subway before and wondered what she was reading, he said, he was now involuntarily watching a pornographic movie in his head starring some random stranger whose only connection to him was that she was wearing a short skirt on the bus. He said it was actually a little frightening and would often take his breath away because he had so little control over his own mind.
I'm sure it was harder for him; men born men get these feelings in puberty and take years to learn to deal with it so they can still do something besides think about sex. He went from zero to caveman in a few months.
