That depends on my goals. If allowing the pain gets me what I want, then I would resist the urge to zing back. For a while I took a preverse pleasure in seeing how much of my wife's crap I could take before I broke.
My answer to why you get the venom, is because you zing back. Sometimes you bring it on yourself but texting out of the blue. Example: "What is wrong with you?"
Her venom, besides the MLC BS standard venom, is backlash.
From a totally outside perspective, just based on what you have written, your realtionship with your wife seems to always have been confrontational always aggresive to some degree or another. One-Upsmanship.
If her 'friend' is the OW...not sexual...but her version of the OW...then all the rules apply. Stop attacking the OW, you will lose. You can listen or eventually find out for yourself.
