I like the idea of the stock way better than giving her money.

While it's all well and good to look out for her, if you keep bailing her out then she will do one of two things: 1) never hit bottom and grow up; or 2) come back out of obligation/guilt and run away again later.

I know you don't want her to sink, but be careful about bailing her out. Think about what you would do for a friend.
