The ONE thing that you can believe on is that he is confused!
What he writes in an email to someone could be colored by a lot of things. He could have been saying what eh though the person wanted to hear. He could have been trying to convince himself. It could have been what he felt, at the time he wrote it. It could have been drivel coming out of the end of his fingers!
So, don't make too much of it! And DON'T ask him to explain it! And don't snoop again!
By the way, you are not wasting your time, in any case! You are improving yourself, and learning about yourself, right? Changes in you can help bring about changes in your relationship. It takes time though! (I know about that part!)
