Holy guacamole, ms imp.. I did the same thing with spouse. It seemed right and noble at the time, but reading you doing it makes me think.. what in the heck???
You are not and will never be a second class citizen, second to anyone in this world. You are wonderful, loving and brilliant.. and are getting much better at accepting compliments.
