lol - thanks GFI! I'm going to Hoy on part of my trip. Ugh, I hate midges. It's so hard to collect enough of them to make a decent snack - LOL
But you know what? I bike all winter long in some pretty nasty rainstorms and I'm still alive. I took an 8-day bike trip in SW CO crossing a pass per day with average elevation gain/loss of 3-4,000 feet and in the midst of heavy downpour, sleet, and lightning storms. So I think I'll make it.
Best lesson one can learn is that high-priced lightweight protective clothing that can be worn in layers is usually worth the cost.
