Hi Hope,

So sorry to hear about your breakup. I have to agree with fig, you still have a lot of healing to do and where better to do it then in Switzerland. Like you said it's only 6 months and it would give you the time and distance that would make healing possible. Besides that, it's an adventure. You have nothing holding you where you are right now and that won't always be the case. There's a whole world out there besides southern Illinois. It will be there when you get back and who knows what might come of it!

Take care...........

Love,
Bethie

Thank you all for the support.

Had my interview with the Swiss people today.

I think it went well. I did find out that the two positions they were looking to fill are in two different cities, so I wouldn't be with another US person.

There are 5 people in the running for 2 positions and I'm guessing that probably all are pretty good candidates. They are going to make a decision by the beginning of next week.

After finding out that I would be the only US person there, I debated on pulling my name out of the running, but I decided this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if I didn't try for it, I would kick myself later. There probably won't be a better time in my life to pick up for six months and move to Europe....let alone be given an opportunity like this.

I might get homesick....I might not like it....but I could also love it. After what I've been through, I know that you can do anything for six months. Six bad months in Europe wouldn't even compare to the six months following when my x left. I'm going for it because I don't want to look back and say what-if. My life here will be waiting when I come back and maybe this is just the thing I need to really clear my head and get away from my old life for awhile....nothing like moving halfway across the world to do it :-)

Hope I don't even know you except for how lwb talks about you(all good mind you). How great is this??!! I was an exchange student out of high school and though it was a hard year it was one of the most rewarding experiences I ever had in my life.

Go for it.

They offered me the 6 month position in Zurich, Switzerland. I am supposed to let them know by tomorrow if I want to accept it.

I'm still in a little bit of shock....but excited. I think I'm going for it. Nothing to lose and it couldn't have worked out at a better time for myself. It will give a chance to step away from my life and maybe get some clarity.

Some people run to Mexico (X ran to Mexico, Missouri when he left me)....some run to Switzerland :-)

Oh Hope,

How exciting! We could all use an adventure and I'm sure this one will do great things for you. Just think of all the cool things that you'll get to see and experience in your time off.

I'm excited for you!

omg, hope, that is awesome!!!! I know you are likely nervous, but hopefully also a bit excited. and its only 6 months, so if you don't like it, like you said, you have certainly been thru worse. hell, the chocolate alone would help you thru it!

keep us posted! obviously its a choice that only you can make, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a wee bit jealous of the opportunity. \:\)

Thanks everyone.

I accepted the position in Zurich this morning. I will be moving in about 8 weeks. I'm both terrified and excited \:\)

As they always say....when one door closes, another one opens. You just never know where life is going to take you. If someone told me that I would be moving to Switzerland two years ago, I would have laughed in their face.
