Hey DQ - Shhhh about Oregon. We dont want to let the secret out and have too many other people move here. I will say, Oregon is quite diverse in that it has a little of everything - deserts, ocean, forests, alpine moutains, rivers, big and small lakes.
Speaking of the fabulous gorge, I had a friend that worked at a gas station in Cascade Locks. He told me that once a couple from Arkansas stopped by and asked how to get to the Columbia River gorge. He told them "You're in it". I think maybe they were looking for the Oneota gorge within the Columbia River gorge.
