So, before I knew he was from Louisiana, I made some comment about linguistics and how people in CA say "you guys" (but it's totally gender neutral - I'm guilty of saying this to a group of girls lol). And how when I was at my officer basic course one of the instructors did that and the two black girls from Louisiana were all offended. And he was like "that's because we treat our women like women!" LMAO.

Being in the military is great because the people come from everywhere. We had a hilarious discussion at my officer basic course (OBC) about "you guys" vs "y'all" vs "yous". The guy from Maryland, in all seriousness said, "add an s to something and it's plural. you is singular, yous is plural!" Sometimes he'd even say "yous peoples" LMAO.
