Very Scary Indeed!

Good thing Dr. Ellie is on board and on call!

Good luck, and I hope DH settles down!

Oh my gosh Ellie, I'm so sorry! I hope he makes a quick recovery (and needless to say - hope there's a minimum of post-concussion issues).

Let's hope. In looking up therapies to help him recover, I found a very discouraging article about the increased incidence of depression in ex-football players depending on how many concussions they had had (3 fold increase!).

Oh Ellie, I'm so sorry. I no a concussion can be a much bigger deal than it sounds. Glad to hear his memory is mostly back, poor guy.

Wow, that's frightening. You might find more info about hockey players--this is a huge issue in the NHL.

Just journaling so I don't forget:

Went to a friend's 50th birthday party last night. On the way there H commented how he'd never been to friend's house before. I told him he HAD, because I remember going with him a few years ago. He insisted he hadn't been. I then reminded him about how he had looked at the wooden railings on the back deck when we were there before. He said he remembered that, but I'm not sure if he wasn't just placating me to cover up the fact that he couldn't remember. (Now if it was ME,it would be normal for me to forget something like that, but it is REALLY not like my H).

Meanwhile his ER doc friend took him out surfing yesterday. 4 freakin' days after a serious concussion and his friend is telling him it's okay to surf! I even sent my H the guidelines for concussions - in theory, H shouldn't be doing any contact sports for 3 months. But at the very LEAST, he should be out of any sports for a week. But what do I know? I'm just his doctor wife, can't compete with his ER doc surf buddy. GRRRRRRRR

Hi I hope your H is doing better. My XH fell about a year ago and had a concussion. He still has numbness in his face and has some hearing problems that we need to figure out. Concussions are nasty because you can never tell how the head/brain is affected post fall.

Hi SG -
Not sure when I'll be coming up north next. I'll be sure to let you know when I do though.

Just got back from my 35th high school reunion. It's a successful reunion when:

- you get to arrive with an old high school friend in the SAME El Camino he used to take you out on dates in in high school

- a male classmate tells you YOU are one of the people who doesn't need the photo name tag (because you still look recognizably enough like your teenage self)

- a (still)hunky ex-football player confesses how he wanted to ask you out in high school but was - alas - too shy \:\) (My nerdy high school self would have been THRILLED!)

- you get your picture taken with 12 former GRADE SCHOOL classmates!

- 7 hours is TOO SHORT to get to visit with everyone you want to see.

I went to a Catholic high school, we had a very cool class, and somehow most of us survived the 70's.

Hi Ellie!

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a great time! My choices for HS were the all girl Catholic HS, or the NEWLY co-ed science/engineering magnet HS. I was one of only 500 girls admitted. The whole school had 5000 students.

Guess which one I picked? ;\)
