So how do you react when he's in the funk, BFM? Do you ignore him and go ahead on your own way?

Sorry I have been so quiet recently. Kathryn's pony nearly died just over a week ago. We have had a horrid three weeks. We just got him back from vet hospital yesterday. Of all the stupid things he got a twig puncture and it went into the coffin joint!!!!!
On a lighter note, I competed Saffron this last weekend and came third in the pairs which was good!!!!

No, I don't ignore him. I offer him support, but continue to detach.
Detach does not mean that I go about and do my own thing and ignore him. Detach simply means that I don't let myself get drug down when he's having a bad day or week. I see that's its not the end of the world and that "this too shall pass", I pray, I'm there if he needs to talk, and I try not to take things personally.
