I have often asked about her day, but less lately. Sometimes she'll talk about it, but usually it's just "long".
My H used to say the same thing about his days at his previous job - "long". He wasn't too fond of that job.
Does she like being a nurse?

She may feel underappreciated, but I am coming to the conclusion that she is underappreciating herself, and projecting that on the rest of us. It's hard work through that.
Yes, it is.

LOL!!! That's a good one!

I asked her if she wanted to do anything for the 4th last night. The kids were not all home at the time, but she said she'd talk to them about it.
Like most parents, she's putting the kids' interests before her own.
Did you and the boys already come up with ideas for the 4th, then ask for her input? Perhaps talk to the boys and say something like, "A, B, and C are great ideas, guys! Now let's let Mom choose which it will be (a, b, or c)."
Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward. ~ Joseph Campbell
I think she likes being a nurse. And I think she's good at it. Of course, it is hard to know either of these for sure, but I think I am right. The shifts are long (which strikes me as a bad idea, but they didn't ask me!), but it means she usually works "only" three days a week.
I think I'll talk to the kids some more about the 4th tonight. They want sparklers and such, which we don't have here. (And it probably isn't a bad idea!) A picnic sounds fun, but it is going to be really hot! The minor league baseball team has fireworks tomorrow night after their game, so that's another possibility. We will see what happens!
Every time W goes to a Sidewinders game we have a storm, and it gets cold! (Where cold is of course a relative thing!) I want to include her, but if she doesn't want to go.....?
B is probably a picnic on the 4th. I'd like to go up Mt. Lemmon, but I have a feeling we wouldn't be the first ones with that thought. There are a couple other places we could go that might work, though.
C might be to grill out back, and get some poppers and stuff for the kids. And silly string.
Just as a check though...you are planning this from your perspective, are those things she also TRULY enjoys? Or can you think of another option that would be something TOTALLY about her?

I was thinking more from the kids perspective, actually.
If it wasn't so flippin' hot I think she would like the picnic best. Especially if we could go up the mountain, and do a little hike. Maybe we could try that Sunday....
And do C on Friday. What the heck, some of us could do A on Thursday!
