Don't worry too much as to how the kids feel. Most likely they're a little brain washed, but I'd rather have it this way now, then for them to grow up thinking that you didn't fight for them.
The whole idea of changing a child's last name when they have a parent who is active and present is insane.....so really the onlything you won was what was right!
