The Merced season only runs through mid July!

The Tuolumne has a longer season, but is more "challenging".

The Middle Fork of the American might be another option.

I am too. And very jeallous. I am too far away.
And I have no idea difficult or easy that is. I went down a river with a tube once. All day. So much fun, we had a little cooler box with beers and sandwiches tagging along. I had never seen that before. Never did again. I think it was guandalupe (does it even exist) river? Texas somewhere (I think)...

Kalni I have done this too. We used to do it at least once a week when H and I were first together, but as we got older we stopped. There is a river here by me, the Kern. We would float from Rancheria to Lake Ming, some rapids (not a lot)but it was a hoot to lay in a tube and float down the river on a hot summer day...sigh, I just realized how much fun it was and how much I miss it.
