Did I ever tell you about my GF prior to W? I took her out to this incredible place (which you'll be driving by probably). It's an immense overlook of the San Juan river with Monument Valley to the west, the Goosenecks of the San Juan below, the Abajo Mountains to the north, the Lukachukai mountains in AZ to the south, and the Sleeping Ute mountain in CO to the east. 1200 foot drop-off all around a spur of slick-rock. She took one look and said, "I don't see what the big deal about scenery is." I took her home and said goodbye.
Actually, that spot is where my W and I got married and it was an incredible experience, but guess I'll just have to store that memory away now. Anyway, it's on Cedar Mesa between 95 and 191 - called Muley Point - and it's incredible. Can't remember if you're driving to Monument Valley or not.
Sounds incredible. If I take a few days out west later this summer, I definitely need to hit you up for suggestions. You were right to ditch her with that response. Was she wondering if there was a mall nearby?

That is pretty funny how some people just cant be marveled by amazing natural sights. At least when I took W to Crater Lake, she was blown away by how blue it is and how big it is. Same with when I took her to Mt St Helens - she was awed with the vast destruction.
I will keep Muley Point in mind as I may decide to get down towards Monument Valley - of course if S7 looks on a map he will pressure me to detour over to 4 corners.
Thanks for the fathers day wishes. I took the kids hiking nearby to an overlook in the Columbia river gorge. It was a moderate hike of about 5 miles round trip with a bit over 1500 elevation gain. The kids laughed coming down quite a bit. S7 is the slow boy going up as his sister is going to be a mountain goat like her dad when she gets older.
