Yes I think this could be the withdrawal stage. Listen, what he has been doing and the way he is acting is not a mystery. If we changed places and I was in your shoes, what would you tell me?
He is clearly trying to make a decision even if he hasn't told you he is in the process ("I will sort this out"). That's why he needs time alone to sort this thing with the veg and then get the nerve to come to you and tell you he loves so much and he has been such a d&ckhead and regrets hurting you.
I feel that you being as warm and fuzzy and inviting (not pursuing) would help him to make the move faster(the zipper would help too).
I wonder if you will go to these weekends as couple or as "couple to be"... Love K
