The only thing that worked for me was an exterminator.. or rather a 'pest eliminator'.
Interesting factoid: If you kill a carpenter ant, a signal is sent out where at least one or two other ants come out to find and/or retrieve their fallen brother. So no stomping. I'd flush them down the toilet.
