Maybe I'm just too used to hanging around a bunch of military guys, but swearing doesn't mean anything. He was obviously mad, but it's not like he was throwing things or being physical.

I was going to say it sounds like he tends to get frustrated/mad when he can't fix things. I mean, I think one of the reasons he is such a workaholic is because he knows how to handle things there. He is knowledgeable and experienced.

With R stuff and the kids, he probably doesn't feel that way. He probably feels more uncertain. And with you, he definitely isn't sure how to fix it. And since guys like to fix things so much, he gets impatient with the world because of the weight of all these un-fixed things hanging over his head.
