Well, we had a tiny bit of un-relationship realated excitement last night! I'd gone to bed and put a DVD in to fall asleep to. W was in the family room, watching TV, as far as I knew. Anyway, the DVD was working, and I was snoozing, then there was a bit of an exclamation. It was probably around one, but I don't really know. I just stayed put. A minute (maybe less) or so later... "Jeff! Come here!" I got out there, and she was in the hall near the from door (which is near the guestroom, and the bathroom. She had been stung by a scorpion! So, we had no idea what needed to be done, but the first order of business was to get said scorpion trapped, and then out of the house. By then, all three of the boys were out, S18 and I were on different computers trying to find info, and S10 and S13 were comforting their mom. Eventually we called got enough info (poison control was the most useful) to know that if she was having a bad reaction she would know it, so we got back to sleep around two. She said she was ok this morning, other than the lack of sleep!
She left before I did to go quilting. So, I think it is safe to say she is fine! At least in this case more scary than anything. From what I gather, our scorpions are much less dangerous in real life than they are in the movies. Though there are much worse reactions that you can have to them.
Stung by a scorpion!!! Wow!!! That sounded very Indiana Jonish!!
I am glad she is OK. Yeah, Michelle had a good idea, call her to check up on her. Would that be normal of you? Or a 180? either way, I think you should do it...
No, it was no fun. She said it hurt a lot, at first. I guess there is a toxin, and some people react really badly to it. She had a bad reaction to a bee sting before, so I was sort of expecting a bad reaction. But it never came. This morning when I asked how she was she said fine, with a look that said, I wasn't expecting it, but it is not bothering me at all!
I think I may text her in a while, and ask her how her foot is. good idea, Michelle!
Every insect is different. Even different types of scorpions.
People that are allergic to bee stings won't necessarily react to a wasp bite or a scorpion sting.
Some scorpions are more dangerous than others. For example, the California Brown Scorpion won't kill you unless you have problems with your immune system, but you will spend a miserable 2-3 days puking with a fever and stomach cramps.
$h!t. Now you got me in lecture mode. Lol. *headdesk*

Yep! Though not so Indiana Jonish! Standing in the hallway, in her longish sleeping T-shirt (from Boston, with lobsters on it, which look a little like giant scorpions), and barefoot, standing on one leg! She said she saw it just befor she stepped on, or next to it, and got stung! She was planning to move it outside, but I got to do that later! I have to admit that I wasn't really Indiana Jonish in that move either! But I did get it out! We don't see them very often, but we know they are around, it's just part of living here! Kind of like the snakes, though those are easier to see! In fact, we saw a large (maybe 5 feet long?) bullsnake (non poisonous) at the park yesterday!
She just texted back, "Fine, no pain". So I think all is well!
We've got the ones that rattle, too! W nearly jumped out of her skin meeting one of those while we were building the house. It was dark, and she walked around the corner of the house, heard the rattle, did the wrong thing, and screamed, and ran. But succeeded.
The scorpion was a Bark Scorpion, which is the "dangerous" one here, but the damage seems to have been minimal!
