I thought these statements were very telling:

H: coming off drill is usually depressing
Me: just because life is too complicated or because it's more fun to play army?
H: I go from being the leader of the best assault team in the company to being nobody with loads of credit card debt and no clear career

But his solution is to be mopey and anti-social and neglect his friends and family. Which frustrates me because I'd be willing to help him out, cook dinner for him, do his laundry, if only he'd act like we were together. He's making life so hard on himself and than complaining about it nearly every time we talk.
