I would call that a worthless Christianity SF. If the best one can do with the gift of salvation is use it as a license for any behavior at all, well it wasn't much of a salvation.

Paul says, "Everything is permissible; but not everything is beneficial." Some may take this to mean that God grants us the right to do whatever we like. I believe this is true only to the extent that God does indeed allow us free choice in our lives. But clearly there are decisions that we could make that would put us outside of God's desire for the way we live our life.

As for the rest, you're right. This could be one whale of a debate and I'd hate to be responsible for ruining a thread.

I will just say that I do not believe that Jesus would welcome us in if we intended to still live as non-believers. Yes, we all sin. But we also all try to live godly lives. There is NO parallel here to the viscious and hurtful things these spouses have done. They are NOT mistakes. They were decisions that were made, knowing full well the pain and destruction they would cause.

I do believe that Jesus told the rich young ruler who proclaimed his desire to follow Him that he would be unable to, in part because the rich young ruler refused to give up those things in his life that he enjoyed more.

There's your parallel to this MLC mess.

Blessings,

Bill
