bnd, don't know how I missed you in my response. I can't figure out how to use the Scantron's to do graduate level essay exams, or believe me I would.

Florida is NOT well known for valuing education and it sure shows in our class sizes. Our budgets are so bad that the state is talking about cutting teachers and faculty at all levels, from K through post grad. Now of course, hell would freeze over before they passed a state income tax, but we pay a small fortune to have a standardized test administered to every student from 3-12. Really good science: take one measure of performance using one method of assessment on one day out of the year and pretend it means something! I hate it when legislators think they know anything about testing & measurement!

Oops, just the tiniest little rant there. AT least it's on my own thread!

S15 and I saw Baby Mama last night...it was fun and people were laughing out loud. I love a movie like that, even if it is pretty light weight!

We didn't get to the Arts Fest yesterday but I'm planning to make it this afternoon if I can get S15 out of bed.

Grading still awaits. Bleh.

Bills still await. Double bleh.

Yesterday I had a great walk on the beach and plan another in just a few minutes. I've been reading No-Hill's thread, and it reminds me to be grateful, grateful, grateful that I'm able to live so close to the ocean.

Hope everyone is enjoying Sunday.

Glad you're getting some sun and shore as the summer approaches! Any fun plans for the summer? Are you teaching another session?

Take good care!

AG, my advice FWIW, is don't wait too long. If you really love it. I am SO glad that XH and I bought this intended "retirement" home 20 years before I thought we'd retire. Now, I get the amazing health benefits of the ocean, every day if I want it.

Thanks for posting, I love your new intentions to slow down on the self-help and self-analysis, I can very much relate to the need!

Hugs.

S15 and I had a great trip to the beach yesterday. the waves were just big enough to be fun and a little scary for average swimmers. It was a tad cold for me, I'm a florida wimp, but S got in completely.

Today is grading, of course.

Also today, a visit to the dentist. I've been having a group of symptoms that have caused me to wonder if I have Sjogrens: extreme dry eyes, dry mouth, dry skin, fatigue. I tend to be a split personality on medical matters: I either ignore them for years or I get a bit overconcerned. But I've already seen the opthamalogist (Sp) and he sensibly said, whatever we call it, your eyes are too dry and that can be dangerous. Let's treat you.

Same deal goes with the mouth, so I am going back to my dentist today.

Too much information, maybe, but I've been preoccupied with the potential for long-term neurological outcomes. My mom has some very pronounced, and as yet undiagnosed, neuro problems and frankly I don't want to go there.

Hugs to all, gotta get to it.

Just had a round of emails from XH, trying to set up S15's summer schedule.

Found out from S15 that part of the time this summer they are all going to visit new Mrs. Xh's family.

Oh oh oh oh oh....I knew this was coming, of course, it is natural and to be expected. But it hurts and it makes me so angry and so sad and I just hate it.

I hate crying over things related to m unwanted D and the breakup of our family, and S15 spending time with these people and pretending it is all just okay and fine. I hate even more wondering when the f*** I'm going to reach the point that I don't cry anymore.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Hurray, classes are over, I turned in grades yesterday, and I have 10 days until summer term starts. I have to revise a paper to resubmit, and submit one new paper, but I don't have to meet classes again for 10 whole days. Yippee!!!!

I am planning my own mother's day weekend (sigh, another fallout from the D). I haven't taken any definite action, but I think if it sounds good to S15, I'd like to drive up midstate to one of the natural springs areas, stay a couple of nights, go tubing on the river, and putz around in the little towns. Sounds like fun, and easy except for the driving. Gotta act soon though if I'm going to board the dogs.

Okay, gotta go get the kid from school in just a bit.

Well...

Saturday afternoon my 10 month old Standard Poodle, McGyver, started behaving very strangely. Scary, with symptoms much like those of torsion and bloat. So I ran him to the emergency vet clinic. Sure enough, no torsion, but he had swallowed something big enough and solid enough that it wasn't going to pass through the normal way. So, emergency surgery we had.

He is coming home today. We are not sure still what he swallowed, but it looks like an oversize "mouse ball" almost an inch in diameter and very solid.

I'm sure glad it was something they could fix. But now, it is looking not so likely that S15 an I'll be able to go out of town for mother's day weekend. I don't have/know of a reliable dog sitter and and I am a little reluctant to kennel him within a week of the surgery. We'll see how it goes. Maybe we can find someplace that takes dogs.

It's always something, isn't it.

I was indolent over the weekend, did only a few chores. Now must start acting like a normal, working human being.

Cheers all.
