Hi Barb,

Thanks for the good wishes. I skipped the party...I have to be ready for work at 7:30 am and I knew I would have a hard time getting home at a decent hour. So I took the doggie for a long walk along the greenbelt/wilderness path near my house at sunset. Walked for almost 2 hours! Saw Burrowing Owls! (Picture) They are tiny, only about the size of a grapefruit! My walk took me to a small bridge over a creek...I saw something moving in the water. I was leaning over the bridge, watching this movement among the rushes, when all of a sudden Argo barked! And a large flat tail emerged, then slapped the water and that was that! I think it was a beaver! But I didn't see any dams, so maybe it was an otter.

Got to get ready for work. Today is the last day of class for my Master's students. \:D Celebration time! Their graduation is in 2 weeks. 2 of my FAVORITE colleagues are moving away this summer. We will all be having beers afterwards.

Happy Saturday friends! How much is gas in YOUR area? We are up to $4.10 a gallon.

SG

Hi SG!

Gas here is $1.18 a litre. I think it takes 2.2 litres to make a gallon so, maybe that's not so bad. It is hitting hard everywhere but here it is better than most places.

Amazing about the little burrowing owls. I will be sure to tell Josh. He loves birds and we are ever on the lookout. Your other critter was no doubt a beaver since otters don't have flat tails and don't slap the water (at least none that I've met). We have otters, mink and muskrat at our cottage and beavers at my dad's place.

Enjoy today - I'm sure it will be wonderful. What are your summer plans?

Hey Karen!

I love Pismo Beach! That will be fun. The central coast is really such a great place...I love visiting D there. Sometimes I wish it were closer so I could go more often! LOL...Let me know when it is closer to the time...If I am in the neighborhood we can have lunch or something.

Happy Monday Morning friends!

This weekend I was in a little bit of a funk. Not sure why. On Saturday I saw my Master's students for the last time before graduation...It was the last day of class and it just dragged on and on. \:\( But afterwards the instructors had beers together and that was nice. I came home and just vegged with It Happened One Night and enjoyed the romance of a bygone era. "The walls of Jericho" What a device! anyway...

Went to bed and then on Sunday morning I had a vm from CG on my cell. Somehow I missed it when he actually called, which was Saturday night and while I was watching Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. I have been thinking a lot about CG and the pattern (2x) of getting involved and then dropping me like a hot iron. So I haven't called back. I am remembering Sex in the City and The Rules...

Remember Charlotte wanting to become Jewish?

I have to say I am so glad to have the wonder puppy. Sometimes I think if it weren't for him I would just lay around all day and do nothing.

Planning a big party in 2 weeks for my good friend who is moving to the East Coast. Now we are in the crunch time! I need to get my gardening helpers in here to help clean up.

Well, this afternoon is my "additional testing". I swear this is such a pain. Oh well, better safe than sorry I suppose.

Have a good one everyone.

SG

Big Sigh...

Well yesterday I drove to the next town over to have the super-duper mammogram that was the followup to the regular one last week. I am not sure what the difference is, but after the procedure the radiologist came into the room to talk to me about some calcifications in my breast. He recommended a core biopsy, but gave me the option of waiting 6 months.

Right in between the first 2 bombs I had 6 biopsies. 3 on each side. The left side had 3 core biopsies. It wasn't fun. but I suppose it is good to make sure. There are a couple of things about it that bother me, however. One is that last time without them telling me they left tiny bits of metal at the biopsy site, to act as a marker for future mammograms. Well, I would have appreciated being told and asked before they deposited bits of metal in my breast.

Now, I have these calcifications. Some of what I am reading suggest that they can be caused by old injuries to the breast tissue. I am wondering if these biopsies are irritatingly the tissue and causing the calcifications?
They will call me sometime today to schedule.

Well, yesterday I was in a bit of a funk because of this...as you can imagine. I went over to the neighbor girlfriends house where we regularly have happy hour. I admit...I had a few beers. (a nice microbrew IPA) When I got home I started to prepare dinner. I set a pan on the burner and then went to check my e-mail. Next thing I know, I hear a "WOOOMPH" sound, and go into the kitchen to investigate. The pan was on FIRE! the flames were about 2 feet high! The cabinet next to the stove was scorched and smoking! It was scary! I covered the pan w/ a lid and pulled various things away. Managed to get a box of baking soda out of the cupboard and douse the several small fires that were on the counter.
Managed to get the burning pan into the sink.

That was really awful. I called my girlfriend whose house I just left...She and her dad (the one who fixed my door) will come over later today to help me asses the damage. I may have to replace the cupboard and the hood. The cover over the light in the hood melted completely. The house filled with icky stinky smoke. I opened all the windows, got the fans out of the garage and set them up and blew the house out.

So today I am going to the orientation for therapy. Not a minute too soon if you ask me.

Today I feel like running away to somewhere "beyond the rainbow"

((((((((((((Goddess))))))))))))

Well I'm sure you have better days and the fire would have scared the pants off of me for sure. Will insurance help to pay for any damage?

You know the mammogram and what you had to say about it was really interesting. I had a girlfriend who went through the exact samething last fall. She always hates to go in for her mammogram because they always find something that calls for a follow up mamogram which usually leads to a biopsy. Last fall when she went in she also found out that they had put the metal markers in her. Strange that this isn't explained to the patient. I think it's just worn her down and she hates to see fall roll around. I'm going to tell her that she needs to do some investigating. I'm not sure if she knows when the metal was originally put in or not.

Good luck Sweetie.

Love,
Bethie

(((SG)))): Sounds like you had a rough day. The biopsies don't sound fun at all - I know my girlfriend has been through it several times. Then the fire. What next?

Josh set his stovetop on fire last month. The same day he found out someone tried to break into his house and snapped off his back door handle.

Some days are just bad. I hope today is better. I hope insurance covers the damage or it is minimal and easily repaired.

Thinking of you,

Barb

Thank you so much, Bethie, Karen and Barb!

You guys are the best. I just got off the phone with the radiologist. We had a long conversation and she was as nice a possible. My biopsy is scheduled for May 17th. She warned me to have lots of ice packs at the ready and have a driver. Will do!

Also met my new therapist this morning. I like her. She had some good things to say and good ideas. So yay!

I am feeling much better...and my son is coming home today. Finally!
He bailed the last 2 weeks. It will be great to see him.

Thanks again my MLC survivor friends! \:D

YIKES (((SG)))
Glad your son is coming home. That should keep your mind off things for a little while.
