I think maybe it is time to not ask him a million questions. Like when he said he had a business dinner and you asked if he really did---he knows you do not trust him and he most likely expects you to ask him lots of questions.
When he says he has a business dinner, just say okay and drop it. Like many MLCers, they hate that line of questioning, view you as being controlling, mommy-figure--you know what I mean.
Start a new strategy--do not question his every move. He hates that, I am sure.
Since he is home and you have allowed him to be there, let him be and when he says he is going somewhere, just say okay. Or if he says it does not look good for rent applicants, just say you are sorry to hear that and drop it.
